Do you have a blogpost you always want visitors to see first when they arrive at your blog? It might, for example, be introductory information, a schedule for when news are posted, eller information regarding an upcoming event. Then it might be a good idea to pin them.
It is possible to pin a post during its creation or go back and pin an existing post by editing it.
